Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why can't I bring my newborn?

A. The water temperature recommended for newborn - 3 month olds is 32 degrees. The pool temperature that we will be working in is 30 degrees therefore a newborn may not enjoy the session as much.

Q. What should my baby / child wear?

A. If your little one (3 months to 3 years) is not yet toilet trained a swim nappy is essential. On top of that any swim wear they are comfortable in. Your 3 - 5 year old needs to wear an appropriate swimming attire - swimming hats are required. For boys swimming trunks / suits (not bermuda style) and a swimming costume for girls (not bikini).

Q. Do I get in the pool with my child?

A. Yes for the age groups up to 3 years (Happy Snappers, Little Snappers and Snappers) you will have to get into the pool with your little one. You will be shown ways to encourage your child to become confident in the water.

NB. The 3 - 5 year old group (Turtles) requires the parent/guardian to remain on the side of the pool.

Q. Do I have to wear a swim suit?

A. Swim wear is essential but if you wish to wear shorts and a t'shirt / vest over the top then that's not a problem.

Q. What about changing facilities?

A. There are changing rooms available at the Swimming Pool. We will also provide an area poolside for changing your baby / child before and after their session.  The last session 3 - 5 year olds (Turtles) will need to clear the changing room by 12.00 lunchtime.

Q. What about eating and drinking before the session?

A. Ideally nothing for up to an hour beforehand but bring a drink and a snack for afterwards. With regards to babies please time their feeds to allow the milk to digest before coming into the pool. If you need to feed the baby afterwards you can do so on poolside - there is no rush to clear the pool for the baby sessions.

Q. What are the class sizes?

A. Class sizes are kept deliberately small to allow a better ratio of instructor to child.

For the Parent and child sessions (Happy Snappers, Little Snappers and Snappers) there is a maximum of 12 .

For the 3 - 5 year old (Turtle) session a maximum of 2 per instructor so we can really focus on specific needs.

Q. Why block booking classes?

A. We run on a block booking policy as it allows better session preparation and ensures we are able to maintain our instructor ratios. We set the sessions according to STA awards, and certificates can be gained by all children.

Q. How do I get access to camp?

A. If you are not able to access camp independently we will provide your details from your booking registration to security at the gate which will allow you to be cleared to come onto camp.

Q. What about car parking?

A. There is car parking at the back of the Gymnasium where the Swimming Pool is located. Please do not park at the front of the gymnasium as it is restricted parking. Please allow time to get from the car park to the gym.
